What Johnny Should Read
When I read this article a lot of things stood out to me. It is true, many people don't know who Churchill is or when the Word was fought. Although, we take English classes and take history classes but, I do not think these things interest the majority of people. As mentioned in the article, people learn best when they can relate something to personal experience. I believe this to be true because I personally can learn something best when it something I can relate to. All of the old time writers and famous poets I can not relate to them, they lived in a different time, speak in a different way and it just something I do not have an experience with. Another thing that was mentioned was that in school we learn more about homemaking and income management and I believe those are very important to be successful in a life outside of school.

In the video that I watched they talked about Hirsch's books and why they are so unpopular. He is unpopular because he believes in the classroom real content should be learned not skills. I don't believe this completely. I think it is very important to learn skills. You will have certain skills in life in order to live in the real world. But, I aslo believe content is important as well. Learning about things that aren't just relevant to us is important. It makes us aware of different things and I do think it is a good way to achieve "cultural literacy" which is was Hirsch would like to see happen in the classroom.
Claiming and Education
In Claiming an education I agree that women are becoming more and more predominant in college settings. Although there is still sexism out there I personally do not experience it on a regular basis. Occasionally you will find someone who is that way but not often at all. I also agree that women need to start speaking up for themselves and not act like they do not have an education or act as if they are stupid. In todays world you always see jokes like "women belong in the kitchen" and things like that, but today women are doing more than just being housewives and some men really believe the only job a woman has is to be in the home. I believe women serve a bigger purpose and so do many females am friends with that is why we work as hard as we do. I personally want to prove that I can just as much if not more than a man.
